Stage fright

21 Jan

in my previous post i happened to mention that i was to give my first poetry recital. I did. It went fairly well. Atleast now i know that next time i will be way better than i was. But considering it was a first time, i did pretty good if i could say so myself. thus i decided to share the poem with you. its titled stage fright, thus the post title. i definitely had some of that while i read the piece, but thank heavens for stage lights that blind you and you can’t see anyone in the audience. So without further ado, here it is.

STAGE FRIGHT

they say there is always a first time,
it aint always the best ride
butterflies flipping inside.
You may get it wrong
but you may also be right
it may feel uptight
but at times flow just fine

the proverbial stage fright
the all familiar plight
your will and fears fight
trembling knees the obvious sign
a real imagination
paralyzing illusion

I’ve learnt a thing or two
life ha given me some clues
as the brilliant Shakespeare said
its all just a play
life’s a big stage
you play your part
whether or not you acknowledge the fact
its all a big dance
and each one has their steps to take
every move made
the means to a greater end
part of a grand plan

at time life can thrust us
straight out to the limelight
it may seem hard to take in
but my friend just breathe in
You’ve done it all your life
only this time, you are aware of it
the light might shine bright
but give yourself room to surprise you
what i say is duly true
no need to feel blue

each day as the flowers bloom
when the sun yawns in the horizon
i have every living reason
to arise to the occasion
as the curtains on stage
draw open to a new day
i greet it with an open smile
Hello fear, don’t come anywhere near
my mind is at rest
and thoughts so clear
Hello fear, start planning a new search
for i think you just met your match

the proverbial stage fright
the all familiar plight
your will and fears fight
trembling knees the obvious sign
a real imagination
paralyzing illusion
and yet a deletable delusion
a little faith,
the simple solution
